Finally, we think that the same level of expectation is being placed on medical supplies, equipment, and gadgets. The technology and information systems in your health system will need to track where every medical supply, piece of equipment, or gadget came from, how your workers used it, who used it and where it went.

The DSCSA’s unit-level traceability requirements are currently being phased in, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has said that it plans to eventually extend them to medical devices and supplies. So, healthcare organizations need to be prepared for that eventuality.

What other advice would you give healthcare organizations when it comes to their supply chains?

The most important thing is to have a good relationship with your vendors and suppliers. Know who they are, what they do, and how they do it. Make sure you’re comfortable with their quality control processes and that you have a good understanding of their business continuity plans.

You should also be in command of your internal procedures. Do you know where your own flaws are? Do you know where things might fail? Have you identified those choke points and put strategies in place to avoid them from happening?

Finally, I’d add that healthcare organizations have to be prepared to weather the inevitable storms. There will always be disruptions in the supply chain, whether it’s due to a natural disaster, an unexpected increase in demand, or anything else. You should have contingency plans in place so that you can continue to provide excellent care for your patients if something goes wrong.

The High Standard of Chemo-Rated Gloves - Never Compromise Quality

All gloves sold in the United States must undergo rigorous testing before they can be approved for use in the treatment of chemotherapy. Approved gloves must meet the ASTM D6978-05 requirements for the assessment of the resistance of medical gloves to penetration of chemotherapeutic agents. The ASTM standard D6978 is a specific test of gloves for the use of chemotherapeutic agents that complies with the permeation test standards for protective suits recommended in most guidelines for medical personnel handling chemotherapeutic agents.   
As a result, garment manufacturers take a similar approach to gloves, combining parts of the F739 and ASTM D6978 standards and applying the parameters of the garment permeability test. Certain glove manufacturers carry out permeability tests for chemotherapeutic agents on their gloves.    
Drug-tested nitrile, powder and latex-free exam gloves for chemotherapy are an important part of hospital safety programs and are used by a large number of hospital staff. Gloves that meet the standard requirements of these tests are approved for the treatment and administration of chemotherapy drugs. Due to the frequency of latex allergies, chemo tested or nitrified gloves are the best option for chemotherapy.

There are a number of methods for measuring resistance to chemical penetration. The resistance of gloves to the permeation of chemotherapeutic agents can be determined by measuring the time it takes to achieve the maximum permeation rate, known as breakthrough time. This is done by conducting a so-called chemical permeation test under the guidance of two US industry standards.  
The ASTM-F739 is the standard testing method used to determine the actual chemical permeability of a glove material that is in constant contact with chemicals. Penetration is the penetrating movement of chemicals and microorganisms through the material through needle holes and other imperfections in the glove.    
Glove materials were tested by placing permeation test cells in a chemical collection medium for sandwich testing. The tested material was taken from the palms of three gloves.    
Chemo-certified test gloves are considered the first glove of choice by the global medical and medical community. In particular, the ASTM D6978 chemo rating is the preferred standard for many gloves testing for permeation protection against common chemo drugs and other laboratory chemicals. Nitriles of medical quality are not classified as medical nitrile by chemo-evaluated tests.    
Permeation occurs when the material is damaged and it breaks down the material. Control of work practices is very important, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is crucial.
